Anthony M. Esolen

Anthony M. Esolen is a professor of English at Providence College, who has translated Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy" for the Modern Library. Esolen has also translated Lucretius' "On the Nature of Things" and Torquato Tasso's "Jerusalem Delivered" for Johns Hopkins University Press.

Dr. Esolen teaches, along with numerous Providence College faculty, the 2-year mandatory course called "Development of Western Civilization". He is currently the Literature Professor in "Team E" of DWC 101-102. The rest of Team E consists of Dr. Thomas Grzebien (History), Dr. David Shikiar (Philosohpy), and Fr. Dominic Legge (Theology). Some of the items on the curriculum for Team E include Gilgamesh, The Odyssey by Homer, The Theban Plays by Sophocles, The Aeneid by Virgil and Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy, among many others.
