Josef "Joe" Rubinstein is a comic book artist and inker, most associated with inking Marvel Comics' "The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe".

Biography

Rubinstein was born on June 4, 1958, in Germany, and emigrated to the United States from Israel when he was five years old, soon developing an interest in American comic books. At age eleven he attended classes in New York (where he lived) at the Art Students League of New York, under art teacher Arthur J. Foster, the son of the legendary Hal Foster (creator/artist of "Prince Valiant," one of the most highly-regarded comic strips in history).

Rubinstein's idol at the time was Neal Adams, whom Rubinstein met at a comic book convention when he was 13. Rubenstein asked if he could work at his and Dick Giordano's new studio, Continuity Associates, and subsequently became their assistant c. 1971-1972. He met and assisted many legendary artists while working there, including Wally Wood, Russ Heath, Gray Morrow, Jim Starlin and Klaus Janson, among others. At the age of 17, Rubinstein began work as a freelance artist. He has worked for every major comics company and, after inking "The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe" on and off for twenty years, has the Guinness world record for having inked the most pencillers.Fact|date=July 2008

Recently, Rubinstein inked a mini-series for Dark Horse Comics called "Archenemies" (the comic has been optioned by Sam Raimi), and co-inked issues of DC Comics's "Ion" mini-series.

Rubinstein is also an award-winning portrait artist and illustrator, and currently works for Teshkeel Media and First Salvo Publishing.Fact|date=October 2007
