Duong Hieu Nghia

Colonel Dương Hiếu Nghĩa, born in Sa Đéc in 1925, was an officer in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. Nghia graduated from the Da Lat National Military Academy. During the Vietnam War, he served in various infantry and armored units. His highest administrative position was Province Chief of Vinh Long. A capable officer, Colonel Nghĩa was known not for his commanding skills, but for his role in the killing of the brothers Ngo Dinh Diem and Ngo Dinh Nhu.

On November 2, 1963, along with Captain Nguyen Van Nhung, Major Nghia brutally tortured and assassinated President Diem and his younger brother and adviser Nhu after the latter were arrested at the end of an army coup.

After the Fall of Saigon in 1975, Colonel Nghia spent 12 years in various re-education camps. In 1992, he was allowed to immigrate to the USA under the Humanitarian Orderly Departure Program. Since then, he lives in Washington state with his family.
