William Noel-Hill, 3rd Baron Berwick, PC, FSA (21 October, 1773–4 August 1842) was a British peer, politician and diplomatist.[Cokayne et al, "The Complete Peerage", volume II, p.168] ]Born William Hill, he was the second son of Noel Hill, 1st Baron Berwick and his wife, Anna, a maternal granddaughter of Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford.[Cokayne et al, "The Complete Peerage", volume II, p.168] He was educated at Rugby School and Jesus College, Cambridge.][Cokayne et al, "The Complete Peerage", volume II, p.168] From 1796-1812, he was Member of Parliament for Shrewsbury and for Marlborough from 1814-18.][Cokayne et al, "The Complete Peerage", volume II, p.168] [LondonGazette|issue=16898|startpage=1009|date=14 May 1814|accessdate=2007-10-31] ]In 1805, Hill had been appointed envoy to Regensburg (though the Napoleonic Wars prevented him from taking up office), to the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1807 and to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in 1824.[Cokayne et al, "The Complete Peerage", volume II, p.168] That same year he and his younger brother assumed the additional surname of Noel and was created a Privy Councillor.][Cokayne et al, "The Complete Peerage", volume II, p.167] ][Cokayne et al, "The Complete Peerage", volume II, p.168] [LondonGazette|issue=18013|startpage=500|date=27 March 1824|accessdate=2007-10-31] [LondonGazette|issue=18019|startpage=617|date=17 April 1824|accessdate=2007-10-31] In 1822, he had rejected George Canning's offer of the post of Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.]In 1832, he inherited the barony of Berwick from his childless older brother, Thomas.[Cokayne et al, "The Complete Peerage", volume II, p.168] He died unmarried (although he was briefly engaged to Lady Hester Stanhope) at Red Rice, Hampshire in 1842 and his title passed to his younger brother, Richard.][Cokayne et al, "The Complete Peerage", volume II, p.167] ]Notes
