Chicago, Illinois . It is best described as a mix between hip-hop, African, tap, and break dancing styles. For many it resembles a hip-hop version ofIrish stepdance .The dance is believed to have started in the 1980s by self-taught dancers in the West and
South side of Chicago .Footworkin' mainly takes place at what's known as juke parties, where dance groups often battle each other with spontaneous freestyle movements. The style is comparable to "Krunkin" in California, or "Chickenhead" in St. Louis.
There are a certain set of moves easily identifiable by footworkin' dancers, they include: the dribble- like a basketball dribble and ticks- which is similar to amore rhythmic variaton of popping.
The dance team Creation, led by 19-year-old "King Charles" Parks, and are currently viewed as the best footworkin' group in Chicago.
