Gunfight In Abilene is a 1967 Western, it's the second film based on the book Gun Shy from
Clarence Upson Young.

Plot

While Fighting in the Civil War Cal Wayne (Bobby Darin) accidentally kills his friend. When he returns to Abilene after the war he finds his former sweetheart Amy Martin (Emily Banks) about to marry the brother of the friend he accidentally killed. To pay his debt he not only refuses to win her back but takes the job of Sheriff, a job he doesn't want, when asks him. Still haunted by killing his friend he refuses to carry a gun. But he has to use one eventually because there is trouble between the ranchers and the farmers and when he finds the brother murdered he straps on a gun and heads after the killer.
