Alix Smith

Alix Smith (born 1978) is an American photographer.

Smith was born in 1978 in New York City. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts in 2005. In the same year she was selected by ArtReview magazine as one of the best emerging photographers internationally. In September 2004 she was chosen for the Art + Commerce Festival of Emerging Photographers. In 2005, she received a "Marie Walsh Sharpe Studio Grant". Her photographs have been exhibited widely both in the U.S. and Europe. Smith has received international acclaim for her formal, yet surreal photography. Her conceptual based portraits explore the societal and psychological influences on identity. In 2007 she was invited to participate in the Artist Pension Trust New York, managed by Pamela Auchincloss. In 2008 she was chosen by Saatchi magazine's Critic's Choice to show at the New York PULSE Contemporary Art Fair.
