"Evil" J. McGuire

"Evil" J. McGuire

"Evil" J. McGuire (born Jason McGuire) is the bassist/backing vocalist of nu metal band Otep. He is the longest lasting member and only permanent member besides leadsinger Otep Shamaya. While Otep Shamaya writes the lyrics, Evil J. composes the songs.

Evil J. plays Hamer and Lakland and Peavey basses and is endorsed by Peavey.

He began playing music when he started taking piano lessons at age 5. After 9 years of piano he picked up the alto saxophone. He started playing bass in 1988 for his Jr. High school band. Soon after he started playing upright bass in the same school's orchestra.

Evil J graduated from Berklee College of music, in Boston, MA, in 1996. with a bachelors degree in music performance.

Evil J joined the band, Otep, in august of 2000.

He is living in Seattle with his fiance.
