They currently compete in theEnglish Basketball League Division 2, the third tier league, and are one of the biggest and most successful development clubs in the region ahead of professional outfit, and rivals,Plymouth Raiders .Fact|date=February 2008 The team is currently based at theCollege of St Mark & St John , where they operate a development system in partnership with the college.The club was founded in
2000 and is named after the nearbyRiver Tamar and its picturesque valley, dividing the counties ofDevon andCornwall . In 2007, the club formerly known as Tamar Valley Cannons changed its name to Plymouth Marjon Cannons after moving to the College and becoming a part of its "Hub Club".Teams
