"Pakistan Idol" is an upcoming reality-based singing competition to be shown on GEO Television, based on the popular British show "Pop Idol" and its American counterpart "American Idol". The show aims to find the most talented young singer in Pakistan. The show is set to air in Winter of 2007. The show will begin with a cross-country tour in which aspiring singers audition in front of four judges namely Abrar-ul-Haq, Hadiqa Kiyani, Ali Azmat, and Sajjad Ali (all recording artists). Eventually the performers will be narrowed down to 10 finalists, with each competitor performing live every week. Viewers have two hours following the broadcast of the show to phone in their votes for their favourite competitor. On the following night's live episode, the competitor with the fewest votes will be sent home.

The two remaining finalists will battle it out during Finale and viewers will have more time alloted to vote. The next day, the competitor with the most votes is declared winner.

But there are rarely official statements from Geo TV about Pakistan Idol.

As at August 1st, 2008, Geo Entertainment has decided to cancel the show, citing 'lack of interest' by Pakistanis in the format. Therefore the show has been put on hold until further notice..
