Stuart Storey (born in September 1942,
Louth, Lincolnshire ) is a British sports commentator and former 110m hurdler.Early life
He grew up in
Holbeach , later helping to coach fellow HolbeachianGeoff Capes at Holbeach Athletics Club. He was educated atSpalding Grammar School . AtLoughborough Training College (became Loughborough College of Education in 1963, then part of the University in 1977) he qualified as a teacher of Physical Education and mathematics. Loughborough University was and still is Britain's "golden goose" of athletic talent. He went on to representGreat Britain at the1968 Summer Olympics and 1970 Commonwealth Games in the 110m Hurdles. He held the British record at the 200m hurdles.Commentator
After retiring from competition he became an athletics broadcaster on the
BBC and since 1973 he has commentated on eightOlympic Games . He was dropped by the BBC after the World Athletics Championship inOsaka in August 2007, just before his 65th birthday. He continues to commentate for Setanta for theIAAF Golden League . However, he returned to the BBC for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and commentated on the athletics programme including the women's 200m final, men's 110m hurdle final and the men's 4x400m relay final. In 2001, he became a part-time commercial manger of
Neath RFC , as his son James played for the team.
