Dawn of the Dead (2004) characters

Characters from the 2004 remake of George Romero's zombie horror film "Dawn of the Dead" are described below.

Ana Clark

Michael (played by Jake Weber), is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead". He is a television salesman at Best Buy, he also has had 21 other jobs in his life.

When infected hosts reanimated into flesh-eating ghouls, Michael meets up with seven other people, and they try traveling to Fort Pastor, a nearby U.S. Army base. However the route to the base was blocked by zombies, killing five of them, leaving Michael, a criminal named Andre and his pregnant Russian wife Luda. After they find a police sergeant, Kenneth Hall and a nurse, Ana Clark, they all break into the Crossroads Shopping Mall.

When they get to the mall, Michael checks around to see if the place is safe, but is confronted by a zombie who was a cleaner at the mall. Luckily Michael kills it and they confront three living security guards - C.J., Bart and Terry - and they give up their weapons in exchange for refuge. After the group secures the mall, Michael has the idea of painting an SOS sign on the roof to be spotted by a plane. They head up to the mall's roof and discover a man named Andy who is trapped inside his gun store on the other side of the parking lot.

The next day, a delivery truck arrives at the mall, carrying Norma, Steve, Tucker, Glen, Monica, Frank, Nicole, and an obese woman. They let them in, however the obese woman dies, reanimates into a zombie, and is killed by Ana. Later in the film Michael, C.J., Bart, and Kenneth enter an underground parking lot to find the emergency generator, but are attacked by zombies and everyone except Bart makes it to safety. During this time Michael develops a relationship with Ana. Near the end of the film Michael and a few others gather their few weapons and go into the sewers to rescue Nicole and Chips.

They reach the gun store, where Kenneth kills Andy, and rescues Nicole and Chips. The group also stock up on weapons and ammunition. A detonated propane tank is used to clear a path back to the sewers, but the zombies pursue them, Tucker is killed and (thanks to Steve's negligence) the zombies force open the exit door. The group head onto the two buses in the garage and head for the marina. One of the buses crashes and there is a brief confrontation with some zombies. After reaching the marina Michael reveals to the group that he was bitten during the confrontation and can't go with them. Ana pleads with him to come, but he refuses. As the boat leaves he takes his pistol and as a final gunshot rings out over the water as it is assumed that he has shot himself.

Terry

Andre (played by Mekhi Phifer) is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of Dawn Of The Dead. He is a criminal in Milwaukee County.

When infected hosts reanimated into flesh-eating ghouls, Andre and Luda meet up with six other people, and they all try traveling to Fort Pastor, a nearby U.S. Army base. However the route to the base is blocked by zombies, killing five of them, leaving Andre, his pregnant Russian wife Luda, and Michael a television salesman at Best Buy. After they find a police sergeant, Kenneth Hall and a nurse, Ana Clark, they all break into the Crossroads Shopping Mall. When they get to the mall, Andre checks around the mall to see if the place is safe, he encounters a zombie that is outside. After that they confront three living security guards - C.J., Bart and Terry - and they give up their weapons in exchange for refuge. After the group secures the mall, they head up to the mall's roof to paint an SOS sign and discover a man named Andy who trapped inside his gun store across the parking lot.

The next day, a delivery truck arrives at the mall, carrying Norma, Steve, Tucker, Glen, Monica, Frank, Nicole, and an obese woman. They let them in, however the obese woman dies, reanimates into a zombie, and is killed by Ana. Andre, faced with the fact that Luda will soon die from a minor bite she received when they first arrived at the mall, sinks into denial. In the end he has his heavily-pregnant and infected wife tied to a bed in the mall's children's store, determined to deliver the baby. As Luda gives birth, she dies and reanimates. Norma arrives on scene and shocked at seeing the zombie Luda, shoots her in the eye which causes the already shaken Andre to snap and return fire. Norma is hit several times, but shoots back killing Andre.

teve Marcus

Bart (played by Michael Barry) is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of Dawn Of The Dead. He like C.J. and Terry is also a security guard at Crossroads Shopping Mall.

While doing the night shift with security guards; Terry, C.J, and Ben, infected hosts reanimated into flesh-eating ghouls, and Ben was turned into a zombie. In the morning the three confront five living survivors; Ana, Kenneth, Michael, Andre and Luda, who want to hide in the mall. C.J and Bart disagree at first, but allow them in under the condition that the five give them their weapons. After killing Ben, C.J and the others meet another survivor, Andy, who is stranded alone in his gun store, across the mall's zombie-infested parking lot, when Terry and Bart throw the bodies off the roof. The next day a delivery truck arrives, but C.J and Bart refuse to let them in. He is overpowered by Kenneth and Terry, and he and C.J. are sent to a holding cell. He and C.J are later released from the cell by Michael to turn on the emergency generators located in the parking lot. Down there the group finds an unaffected dog and some zombies, which are killed by spraying gasoline on them and igniting them, Bart is killed and devoured by a zombie swarm.

Monica

Norma (played by Jayne Eastwood) is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead". She is a trucker in Milwaukee County. While in her truck she receives a message on her CB from Glen, requesting assistance at St. Verbena. She then picks up the people in the church and proceeds to Fort Pastor which is now taken over by zombies. She then drives to the mall and is let in. Norma gets along well with Monica. Norma dies when she goes to help Andre and his pregnant wife Luda. She kills Luda, now a zombie, which causes Andre to snap and shoot her. She also kills Andre at the same time. Andre's zombie baby is killed by Ana.

Tucker

Andy (played by Bruce Bohne) is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. He is a gun store owner across Crossroads Shopping Mall in Milwaukee County. He first encountered the zombies while driving his truck and after running over several, apparently made it back to his home in the gun store. Andy reinforces all windows and doors, and has water and drinks, but unfortunately little food. Later he meets a group of people at the mall and forms a friendship with them, mainly Kenneth a police sergeant, with whom he plays many games such as chess and Hollywood Squares using a pick up board. He begins to show signs of starvation when one afternoon he writes on his board "Hungry." As a result the mall survivors send their dog, Chips, with food and a radio. Unfortunately a zombie is able to get inside the store and bites him. When Andy tells the group from the mall about the attack and the bite, they do not tell Andy what the bite will do, but in the hidden tapes of Andy's last days in the special features on the DVD it shows him reanimate, but still have a shred of his humanity left. Before attacking Nicole, who rushed in a truck to go and rescue Chips, he went to the roof, and began writing something on the pick up board; he lifted it up to reveal several blood smears on it. He attacks Nicole, who hides along with Chips in a nearby closet, which Andy is unable to open. Andy has his head shot off by a somber Kenneth.

Prior to his death, he apparently kept a video log of his attempt to survive the zombie onslaught, with the intention of writing a book once the chaos ended. It is revealed in these hidden tapes that he was in fact the father of Vivian, the little girl at the beginning of the movie who bit Louis on the throat. It showed on the video that Vivian found a goldfish to give to Andy as a birthday gift, and named it Ariel, like the mermaid. Following her death, Andy kept Ariel in his gun-shop as a monument to all he has left of his daughter. However, in one segment of the video, it is implied that he, starving and slowly going insane, ended up eating the goldfish. He also showed a lot of disgust for his ex-wife, Sarah, for taking away his home, his daughter (Whom Andy claimed Sarah never wanted in the first place and would have dropped off at her grandparents [Sarah's parents] without a second thought), and leaving him with nothing.

Based on the friendship he and Kenneth formed, it is possible Andy is supposed to be based on the character of Roger from the original film.

Frank

Frank (played by Matt Frewer) is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. He lives in Milwaukee County with his family.

When infected hosts were reanimated into flesh-eating corpse, Frank's wife and sons were eaten or turned. Frank and his daughter hear on the radio that there were survivors hiding in a chapel (St. Verbena), however the claims turned to be false when the only people there were zombies. Luckily a trucker named Norma picked up Frank and his daughter Nicole, along with Steve, Glen, Monica, Tucker and an unnamed obese woman. As the group tried to rush to Fort Pastor they found the fort surrounded by zombies. As a last resort they finally reach the mall where Ana, Kenneth, Michael, and others are hiding. It is discovered at the mall that anybody bitten, dies and then reanimates as a zombie. Frank, who has been bitten is isolated in a store with Kenneth guarding him, allowing him "every single second" before expiring. Frank dies, then Kenneth shoots him with his shotgun, destroying Frank's reanimated body.
