Mendez was discovered by Arsenal playing for German non-league side SC Feucht. He signed for Arsenal in 1997. He made his first-team debut in a League Cup match against Birmingham City on
October 14 1997 , as a substitute and scored the final goal in a 4-1 win. However, he could not establish himself in the first-team; he played eleven matches for Arsenal (four in the league) in five seasons, with just the one goal against Birmingham to his name. He had loan spells with AEK Athens, Unterhaching and Ferrol before returning to Germany permanently in 2002.External links
