The municipal seat is located in the town of Calixto, immediately east of Victoria de Las Tunas, the provincial capital.

In 2004, the municipality of Majibacoa had a population of 40,264.[2] With a total area of 621 km2 (240 sq mi),[1] it has a population density of 64.8 /km2 (168 /sq mi).
