Todd Andrew Woodbridge (born 2 April 1971 in Sydney) is an Australian former professional tennis player. He turned professional in 1988.

Career

He is best known as one of the top doubles players in the world for most of the 1990s and into the early 2000s, and especially for his primary doubles partnerships, first with fellow Australian Mark Woodforde and later with Swede Jonas Björkman. Woodbridge and Woodforde are often referred to as "The Woodies" in the tennis world.Woodbridge also had a career high singles ranking of 19 after reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 1997, beating Rafter on the way and only losing to Pete Sampras.Woodbridge's love of tennis was brought out by his family friend Beryl Taylor. As he progressed he was coached by other tennis players. Ray Ruffels coached both the Woodies for years.

The Woodies won a record 61 ATP doubles titles as a team, including 11 Grand Slam events. After Woodforde retired from the tour in 2000, Woodbridge established a partnership with Björkman that resulted in five Grand Slam event titles in four years. At the end of 2004, Björkman ended his partnership with Woodbridge. According to an interview Woodbridge granted to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Björkman wanted him to play more weeks on the tour, but he wanted to limit his time away from his family as much as possible. Woodbridge then took on India's Mahesh Bhupathi, who had just been dumped by Belarusian Max Mirnyi, as his new partner. Coincidently, Björkman and Mirnyi ended up partnering.

In 2000 Sydney Olympics, Woodbridge partnered with Mark Woodforde to make the final, faced the Canadian pair Sebastien Lareau and Daniel Nestor. In the four set tie-breaker, he face a match point and got a Double fault to lose the match.

Woodbridge was also a member of the Australian Davis Cup Team and has played the most ties (32) of any player.

Woodbridge announced his retirement on 2005 Wimbledon, after 17 years of successful career.

Woodbridge has a total of 83 ATP tournament wins in doubles, an all-time record.

In 2006, Woodbridge joined the Seven Network's commentary team for the Australian Open, and joins the commentary team again in 2007.

In 2007, Woodbridge joined the 6th season of Dancing with the Stars.

According to the 2006 Wimbledon website and the ATP website, Woodbridge finished his career with $10,095,245 in prizemoney.

He is coached by former pro Desmond Tyson.

Personal life

He married his wife, Natasha on April 8, 1995 in Melbourne, the president of ATP Player Council in 2001-02. They have a daughter, Zara Rose (born Dec. 12, 2000) and a son, Beau Andrew (born Aug. 6, 2002).
