Eric Donaldson (sculptor)

Eric Robert Donaldson (b. June 9 1981 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) is a contemporary American sculptor and a singer/songwriter.

Donaldson moved to Lancaster, Massachusetts with his family at the age of two. He was born the son of an engineer and artist, and took on traits of both parents and their respective professions.

Donaldson's formal musical education began at the age of 7 when he began learning to play the cello. Through high school he taught himself to play trombone, tuba, upright bass, and drums in school jazz bands and concert bands, and he continued to play cello in orchestras in the Worcester area. After high school Donaldson put aside his formal musical education and began playing guitar and writing music on his own as an escape from the structured mode of classical music. He played with several groups and eventually set out on a solo career path. Donaldson played his first show of original material with his friend and percussionist Matt Blais on September 29, 2007, opening for the group Red Molly.

After graduating from high school in 1999, Donaldson attended the Rochester Institute of Technology intending to study ceramics. He began taking an interest in metalsmithing his freshman year and changed his major to the School for American Crafts metals program. After a one-year hiatus at RIT he was allowed to graduate in 2005 with a BFA from the SAC, metals program at RIT. In 2006 he moved back to Massachusetts and opened his own sculpture studio. Donaldson currently resides in Lancaster, Massachusetts and travels around the United States attending art shows and displays his work in several galleries.
