Henry Barnard House, in Hartford, Connecticut, was the home of educator Henry Barnard. Barnard was instrumental (along with Horace Mann) in the development of the American public school system. This plain and tall, three-story brick building has a gable roof and an ionic-columned portico. It was built four years before Barnard was born.cite web|url=PDFlink| [http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NHLS/Text/66000803.pdf "Henry Barnard House", December 30, 1974, by Blanche Higgins Schroer] |317 KB|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory-Nomination|date=1974-12-30|publisher=National Park Service] .
