- Tomtabacken
Tomtabacken is a summit that with its 377 meters over sea level is the highest summit of the Swedish province of
Småland , theSouth Swedish Highland and the countrypartGötaland . Tomtabacken is situated in the southern part of theNässjö Municipality , about 22 km southwest from the main city. On the summit that is quite flat, there is an outlook tower from where you can see miles and miles over the Småland landscape. In January the
average temperature on the summit is -4 °C, which is as cold as e.g. inDalsland or inUppland miles north of Tomtabacken. Not only in the winter the temperature is lower than that of the nearby surroundings. In July the average temperature is 14 °C, the same as inJokkmokk at theArctic circle .There are two ways of getting there: By foot wandering along the trail of
Höglandsleden that passes just beside the outlook tower, or there is the possibility to go by car from the small towns of eitherMalmbäck orVrigstad . There is a car park near the outlook tower (with place for about 5 cars). From there you have to walk a very short distance. On the tower is a sign telling that you climb the tower at your own risk. The tower seen from underneath
