Venmoney (Venmony) is a village in
Alappuzha district ofKerala state inSouth India . Nearest towns arePandalam on the southeast,Chengannur on the north, andMavelikkara on the west.Achenkovil River flows as its southern boundary.Agriculture is the main occupation, though remittances from abroad form a significant source of income.
Important places include Sharngakavu Devi Temple, St
Mary 's Church and SehionMarthoma Church . Sharngakavu Devi Temple is famous for the monkeys thriving in the sacred grove. There is no building structure as such for the temple as the Goddess has forbidden any construction at the site. The "Vishu" festival at the temple on "Medam 1st" usually falling on April 14 is well-known for its "Kettu Kazhcha" in which huge decorated Chariots and structures known as "Kuthira"s (Horses)are presented. There is also a bazaar on the Vishu day for the sale and purchase of native artefacts and farm products.Betel leaves produced in Venmony are renowned as "Venmony Vettila". Even Gundert Nighantu (1872) mentions it.
