The airport is located between the towns of
Almyros ,Nea Anchialos ,Velestino andFarsala , about 20 km to the west of central Volos (26 km by road, due to intervening hills)inMagnesia Prefecture ofThessaly . The airport is named afterNea Anchialos , the nearest town.The airport currently has one terminal, with one main runway approximately 3 kilometres in length. The airport is developed by public partnership.
The airport is designed to be upgraded over the ensuing years in order to accommodate the increase in air travel and its upgades are planned in a six-phase framework.
A rail station immediately adjacent to the airport terminal (and accessible by an elevated walkway) will be completed in 2008. The airport is also accessible by the
