Li Qiang (activist)

Li Qiang (zh-cp|c=李强 [http://zh.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%E6%9D%8E%E5%BC%BA&variant=zh-cn] |p=Lǐ Qiáng) is a labor activist who engages in protecting workers’ rights during China’s economic boost and assists the Chinese workers to equally share the results of the economic development. Li was born in Zigong City, Sichuan Province.

In October 2000, Li founded China Labor Watch, a New York-based independent not-for-profit organization. [http://www.uscc.gov/bios/2005bios/05_04_14bios/qiang_li.htm] Through investigative reports and frequent press releases on labor news, his group provides the international community with picture of the labor situation in China. Through years of development, China Labor Watch became a reliable source for China-based Western media groups when they seek for labor-related information. Other than reporting the difficult situation of laid off state-owned enterprise workers, in order to improve China’s supply chain, Li is also communicating with major western multinational corporations. Li has his own unique role in the areas of pursuing multinationals to comply with ethical standards and anti-sweatshop activity.

In 2004, he was invited as a visiting scholar at The Center for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University. [http://www.chinalaborwatch.org/ourteam.htm]
