[ [http://www.soccerfactsuk.co.uk/s2004/reffixtures.php?refid=260 Conference North] , 2004: "SoccerFactsUK" website.] He was appointed to the Football League List at the start of season 2006-07, and his first match appointment was the 0–0 draw between Wrexham and Peterborough in a League Two encounter on August 12 2006. On November 14 2006, he was put in charge of an England Under-19 international friendly versus Switzerland at Gresty Road, home of Crewe Alexandra. England won 3–2. After a Football League Championship game between Hull City and Charlton Athletic on October 2 2007, [ [http://www.soccerbase.com/results3.sd?gameid=530497 Hull 1 Charlton 2] , October 2 2007: soccerbase.com website.] he received considerable criticism from the managers of both teams over his handling of the game, which finished 1–2. During the game there were many disputed decisions, a disallowed goal and two sendings off, both of which were disputed by the team managers. On January 1 2008, he took charge of the League One match between Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield Town, [ [http://www.soccerbase.com/results3.sd?gameid=540033 Nottingham Forest 2 Huddersfield 1] , January 1 2008: soccerbase.com website.] where he gave a contested 35th minute penalty award to the away side, at the same time sending off Forest's Kelvin Wilson "with a bizarre decision". Despite doubts being raised by the video replay of the incident, the appeal Nottingham Forest raised to the one match suspension was turned down by the Football Association.
