Amaro Erbes

Amaro Erbes

Amaro Erbes is a brand of amaro (an Italian bitter herbal liqueur) produced by the limited company Fratelli Izzi S.r.l. in Fondi (Province of Latina). It is made with extracts of herbs, roots, and seeds with digestive properties and is typically drunk after meals.

The Izzi family started production of the drink in 1903 under the name ‘Eupeptico Amaro’—eupepsia being that state of good digestion which the ingredients cinchona, rhubarb, gentian, chamomile and other vegetable essences were intended to promote. The liqueur underwent a number of changes of recipe and changes of name, becoming ‘Erbiz Amaro’ and ‘Erbes Amaro’ before settling on ‘Amaro Erbes’.
