Interstate 695 (abbreviated I-695) is a short connector route in the Bronx between I-95 (Bruckner Expressway) and I-295 (Cross Bronx Expressway) near the Throgs Neck Bridge towards Queens and Long Island.

Route description

Interstate 695 begins at Interchange 7A on the Bruckner Expressway (I-95). The highway, also known as the Throgs Neck Expressway, passes through the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx as it heads southward. Going northward, there is an interchange for Laffayette Avenue. Just east of that junction, Interstate 695 interchanges with Randall Avenue, a main street in the Bronx. The highway continues further and after passing Edgewater Park, merges into the Cross Bronx Expressway Extension (I-295). I-295 continues to the Throgs Neck Bridge. History

The route of I-695 is defined as part of Interstate Route Connection 513 in New York Highway Law § 340-a. The highway was completed in 1961 at a cost of $16 million and is an important connection to the Throgs Neck Bridge. Until 1971, the highway was signed as part of Interstate 78; signage then read I-295 until 1986, when I-695 signs were put up by NYSDOT to avoid driver confusion with the Cross Bronx Expressway Extension (also signed as I-295). The FHWA considered I-695 to be technically a branch of I-295 until the I-695 designation was formally approved in 2008.
