Cannock Chase High School

Cannock Chase High School is a comprehensive school in Cannock, Staffordshire. It was founded in 1986 after the merger of two schools, Chenet (the local grammar school, later comprehensive) and Sherbrook. They were located on the same site so it made sense for the County Council to merge the two schools to cut back on costs with one school on top of Carving Hill and one at the bottom causing problems in icy conditions.

Academics

The school has been awarded specialist Science College status. Today, the school is the biggest in the area and always achieves outstanding results. It has 1800 pupils and a teaching staff of over 200. NickHooper became the headteacher after Darryl Knight in 2002 (who during his time at the school made many improvements to facilities). However, with Nick Hooper's impending retirement the school is once again looking for a new headteacher to continue the legacy which their predesessors have set.

Facilities

The school has one of the best teaching environments in the county, with teachers each having their own laptops, they are able to plan their lessons at home and make PowerPoint presentations to show the pupils in lessons to aid their understanding of the subject. Every department has interactive whiteboards and projectors and are constantly striving to get the best grades for their pupils although this is the norm for many secondary schools in this day and age.

Uniform

Years 7, 8 and 9 wear grey jumpers and years 10 and 11 wear black jumpers (6th form can wear smart-casual clothing). The school has recently reapplied for Specialist Science Status and has been granted the status again for a further five years, allowing them have a grant of £1 million over the period.
