- Ressu Comprehensive School
Ressu Comprehensive School (or Ressu for short) is an international school in
Kamppi ,Helsinki ,Finland . There are grades 1-9 in one school. The language of instruction is either Finnish or English, no bilingual classes. The school's objective is to provide free, cite web |url=http://www.hel.fi/wps/portal/Opetusvirasto_en/EducationForForeigners_en?WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=/en/Education+Department/Education+for+Foreigners/Teaching+in+Foreign+Languages/English-language+Teaching |title=no tuition international education for Finnish and foreign nationals.Currently, Ressu has approximately 450 students and 50 teachers. Two thirds of the students are Finns and the remaining one third consists of some 50 different nationalities. Ressu has as least 40 classrooms.
Curriculum
The school's curriculum is based on the Finnish national core curriculum and the
International Baccalaureate Organization curriculum (bothIB Middle Years Programme andIB Primary Years Programme ).In Finland, the comprehensive schools provide basic education for primary and lower secondary levels and their tasks include both teaching and a broader educational role. Their objective is to provide each pupil with the opportunity for diverse growth and learning and for development of healthy self-esteem. All comprehensive schools aim to provide good basic skills and knowledge and sufficient all-round learning. Ressu is a public school and is managed by the City of Helsinki.
History
The school was originally established in 1891. The current school building was built in 1939, and renovated in 1994-1997. The
air conditioning system was renovated in 2006. Ressu became a comprehensive school in 1994.During
World War II , the school building served as a military hospital.the Russian airplanes bombed the school's play ground during the world war II.References
