Stanley Fuld

Stanley Howells Fuld (1903 – 2003) was one of the leading jurists of his day during his two terms on the highest court of the state of New York, the New York Court of Appeals.

Born in Manhattan on August 23, 1903, Fuld received his bachelor's degree from CCNY in 1923 and earned a law degree in 1926 from Columbia University, where he was an editor on the law review.

Fuld engaged in private practice until 1935, when he was appointed to be an Assistant District Attorney in New York County, where he helped to prosecute Charles 'Lucky' Luciano. In 1946, Fuld was appointed and then elected as an Associate Judge of Court of Appeals. Re-elected in 1961, he became the Chief Judge of state of New York in 1966. In 1973, Fuld reached the Court's mandatory retirement age of 70, and returned to private practice.

He died on July 22, 2003 in his home in West Palm Beach, Florida.
