Stanley Howells Fuld (1903 – 2003) was one of the leading
jurist s of his day during his two terms on the highest court of the state ofNew York , theNew York Court of Appeals .Born in
Manhattan onAugust 23 ,1903 , Fuld received his bachelor's degree fromCCNY in 1923 and earned a law degree in 1926 fromColumbia University , where he was an editor on thelaw review .Fuld engaged in private practice until 1935, when he was appointed to be an Assistant District Attorney in
New York County , where he helped to prosecute Charles 'Lucky' Luciano. In 1946, Fuld was appointed and then elected as an Associate Judge of Court of Appeals. Re-elected in 1961, he became the Chief Judge of state of New York in 1966. In 1973, Fuld reached the Court'smandatory retirement age of 70, and returned to private practice.He died on July 22, 2003 in his home in
West Palm Beach ,Florida .
