Old West , finding adventures along the way. However, Wrangler did not have much of a chance to find adventure because the series only lasted six episodes. It was a summer replacement series for "The Ford Show Starring Tennessee Ernie Ford ", but did not garner high enough ratings to become a full-fledged series."Wrangler" did have several characteristics that made it more novel than most Westerns. One was the hero's profession. Most Western series heroes were either marshals, sheriffs, gunfighters, ranchers, trailhands, and scouts. Many of them were cowboys at one time or another, but had changed professions. Pitcairn was one of the few Western heroes who lived the life of an itinerant cowboy, the only other memorable one being Dave Blassingame of the television show, "The Westerner".
