Benjamin Bounkoulou (born 25 September 1942"Who's Who", "CONGO BRAZZAVILLE: LES HOMMES DE POUVOIR n°1", "Africa Intelligence", 29 October 2002 fr icon.] ) is a Congolese politician. Bounkoulou was Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Congo from 1992 to 1995 under President
Pascal Lissouba . He is currently the President of the Union for the Republic (UR), a political party, and is the First Vice-President of the Senate.Bounkoulou was born in
Kinkengué , located in southern Congo. From 1967 to 1975, he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and he was Diplomatic Adviser to PresidentMarien Ngouabi from 1975 to 1976. Subsequently he was Congo's Ambassador toAngola from 1976 to 1979 and was Ambassador toAlgeria ,Libya ,Mauritania ,Egypt , andTunisia from 1978 to 1983. He served as Ambassador to theOrganization of African Unity andEthiopia from 1983 to 1987, and he was then Ambassador to theUnited States from late 1987 to May 1990. La Francophonie . He left the government in 1995.When the Union for the Republic (UR) was founded in March 1995, Bounkoulou became its President, and he has led the party since then.
