Croatia n politician, former leader of theCroatian Peasant Party ("Hrvatska seljačka stranka"—HSS) and a representative in theCroatian Parliament .After the Peasant Party won the 2000 elections in coalition with five other parties, Tomčić became the speaker of Parliament ("Predsjednik Sabora"). He was instated on

Tomčić did, however, keep a seat in the Parliament.In 2005, the HSS ten-member club in the Parliament split between a group supporting Tomčić and another one insisting on change in leadership.
