2 December 1930 –19 September 2007 ) was aCroatia npolitician .Pavletić was born in
Zagreb in theKingdom of Yugoslavia . In 1955, he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, where he majored in literature and theCroatian language . In 1972, he was imprisoned for a year and a half by the communist Yugoslav government as a Croatian national for "attempting to destory and change the state organization". In 1992, he was elected to the Croatian parliament where he would serve as the chairman of the
Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts .Pavletić was subsequently elected by his colleagues as
Speaker of the Parliament on28 November 1995 . After PresidentFranjo Tuđman was declared incapacitated on26 November 1999 , he became the actingPresident of Croatia . He would continue in this role after Tuđman's10 December 1999 death until the Croatian parliament electedZlatko Tomčić as the new speaker on2 February 2000 .In 2004, Pavletić retired from politics. He died on
19 September 2007 in Zagreb, aged 76, from undisclosed causes.References
