Johann Christian Friedrich Schneider (born
Alt-Waltersdorf ,January 3 ,1786 -Dessau ,November 23 ,1853 ) was a German composer and conductor.Schneider studied piano first with his father
Johann Gottlob Schneider , and then at theZittau Gymnasium with Schönfelder and Unger. His first published works were a set of 3piano sonata s, in 1804; in 1805 he commenced studies at theUniversity of Leipzig . He became organist atSt. Thomas's Church, Leipzig in 1812, and was named conductor in Dessau in 1821. It is thought that Schneider premieredLudwig van Beethoven 's Piano Concerto no. 5 in Leipzig in 1811.Schneider composed copiously. Among his works are 7
opera s, 4 masses, 6oratorio s, 25cantata s, 23 symphonies, 7piano concerto s, sonatas for violin, flute, and cello, and a number of shorter works for voice and for piano, as well as both solo andpart song s.ource
