Education and Career

He obtained his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Texas at Austin, under the Nobel Prize winner Ilya Prigogine, in 1978. [Adi Ratan Bulsara, "Entropy, Stability and Fluctuations in Lasing Systems," PhD Thesis, University of Texas at Austin, 1978] [ [http://www.genealogy.ams.org/id.php?id=45826 Ilya Prigogine's Academic Genealogy] ] His thesis was entitled, "Entropy, Stability and Fluctuations in Lasing Systems." [Bulsara's IEEE Biography in "IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement", 57(1), p. 24, 2008] He isthe author of more than 100 articles in the physics literature. His primary research area is in thephysics of noisy nonlinear dynamic systems. [Bulsara's IEEE Biography in "IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement", 57(1), p. 24, 2008]

Honors

In 2004, Bulsara was elected to Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) for "developing the statistical mechanics of noisy nonlinear dynamical oscillators especially in the theory, application and technology of stochastic resonance detectors." [ [http://www.aps.org/units/gsnp/fellowship/index.cfm?year=2004 Bulsara's APS Fellow citation] ] [ [http://www.aps.org/publications/apsnews/200503/upload/spring05_prizes_awards.pdf Bulsara's APS award announcement] ] His festschrift in honor of his 55th birthday, for logistic reasons, was held when he was 56.
