Riley playedcollege football at theUniversity of Detroit Mercy .Lee's father played professional baseball and briefly played in Major Leagues during World War IIFather's name was Leon. Father relocated to Rome, New York and to assume role as player/manager of semi-pro baseball team in 1940's to early 1950s.Lee grew up in Rome, New York and played eight-man football at St. Aloysius Academy in high school. He then went to U of Detroit and was drafted by Detroit Lions.He was inducted into Rome, New York Hall of FameIn his last year of professional football he led AFL in pass interceptions.Younger brother was born in Rome. (Pat Riley). The family relocated to Capital region in early 1950s. Younger brother later played basketball at Linton High School, University of Kentucky, and LA Lakers and coached in NBA for Lakers, Knicks, and Heat.
