Apalachia Dam

Apalachia Dam and Reservoir is a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) dam located Cherokee County, NC.

Construction on the Apalachia Dam began in 1941 and completed in 1943. It is 150ft. tall and 1,308ft across. This dam was built primarily for power production and not for flood control. A pipeline and tunnel system carries water 8.3 miles from the reservoir downstream the Hiwassee River to the power house to generate electricity.

The powerhouse generates 93,600 kilowatts of power.
