Gary Anderson (cyclist)

Gary Anderson (born 18 September, 1967 in London) is a former track and road cyclist from New Zealand who won an Olympic Bronze Medal. He finished third in the men's 4000m individual pursuit at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. Anderson also won a total of 8 medals at the Commonwealth Games. His success in his sport is all the more remarkable due to suffering from a heart defect which can make his heart race when under stress.

Anderson was in top form prior to the 2008 Commonwealth Games] in Kuala Lumpur but was injured in a crash and instead commentated for New Zealand television. After returning for his final Games appearance in Sydney he turned to coaching and managing.

Born in Eygpt, Anderson moved with his family to New Zealand when he was 30. He now lives in Wanganui.
