Lambert was born in
Sydney , the son of Alan Sydney Morrison Lambert. He attended Newington College Preparatory School, Lindfield (1965-1966), [Newington College Register of Past Students 1863-1998 (Syd, 1999) pp 112 ] before his family moved to theNew South Wales south coast. He then completed his primary education at Ulladulla Primary School. His secondary education was undertaken atThe Southport School (1974-78) where, in his final year, he was School Captain, played in the 1st XV, stroked the 1st VIII, was hurdling champion, played in the jazz and concert bands, and attained the rank ofCUO in the Cadet Corps. He was awarded a Gold in theDuke of Edinburgh Award Scheme . In the wider sporting field, Lambert was a member theQueensland Under 21Rugby union team and rowed in the Queensland under 19 rowing crew. Lambert received an arts degree (in literature, modern history and sociology) and a teaching diploma (in English and history) from
Griffith University . His Master of Arts degree (in twentieth century literature andJoseph Conrad ) was awarded by theUniversity of London in 1990 and he was awarded aPhD (for his thesis on the philosophy of education) by theUniversity of Cambridge . From 1984 to 1989, Lambert taught in private schools in Queensland. In 1998, he was appointed as Principal of
Swan Christian College , a co-educational secondary school of 900 students located on the northern outskirts of Perth. Lambert is the current president of the Australian Association for Pastoral Care in Education, and was the founding president of World4One, an international Christian school learning alliance. He has served as the chief executive officer of the Swan Christian Education Association, and has been an educational adviser to a number of Christian Aboriginal schools in Western Australia. Publications
Lambert is the author of "The new Christian Schools movement in Britain: a case study" (University of Cambridge, 1993). He has edited two further educational books and has produced numerous articles for journals and magazines.
