American Viticultural Area located in Monterey County,California . It is located at the southern end ofSalinas Valley , shares an eastern border with theChalone AVA , and is bordered on the west by theSanta Lucia Range foothills. Theappellation has the largestdiurnal temperature variation of any of California's AVAs.fact|date=January 2008 There is a current petition to designate theSan Bernabe vineyard , located at the region's northern end, as its own AVA.
