Alex John Banal (born December 28, 1988) , more commonly known as A.J. Banal, is a super flyweight boxer. Originally from Bukidnon, he now resides in Cebu City.

Career

Banal's interest in boxing began through the inspiration of his uncle, Roselito Campaña, who was once a boxer. He turned professional in 2005. His professional debut on June 11, 2005 against Sonny Saguing ended with a draw . Since then, he has no lost a fight. [cite web

He won the IBF super flyweight title eliminator against Caril Herrera of Uruguay by a 4th round technical knockout on April 6, 2008 in Quezon City. Although he won a chance for the IBF title, Banal turned down the opportunity in order to fight under another governing body in boxing. [cite web

Banal fought for the WBA interim super flyweight championship on July 26, 2008 in Cebu City. Despite leading on all three judges, he was knocked out by Panama's Rafael Concepcion in the 10th round which marked his first ever defeat.
