- Gil Baker
Gil Baker is an American cartoonist and painter born
11 August 1965 , chiefly known for the strip "Danny Dare", a postmodern confabulation parodying the classic boy adventure strips of the past. He publishes through Janissary Graffix. Baker's work is self-identified as most influenced byAlex Toth and the Spanish maestroJesús Blasco , but some of his thematic ideas bear a resemblance toJack Kirby and his style even more so toBarry Blair .A typical Baker hero is an energetic and angry pubescent male on a mission of total destruction, in plot-heavy stories of convoluted conspiracies, violence, and pop-acculturated contempt.
Baker has lived throughout the United States, most notably in Ohio, Charleston, South Carolina, and Hawthorne, California. His experiences on the beaches of both coasts strongly contributed to his strip "Surfhawk."
