Leeudoringstad is a small farming
town situated on the mainCape Town -Johannesburg railway line inNorth West Province ofSouth Africa .Leeudoringstad was established in 1920 and named after the Lion-thorn tree. The town hit the headlines on
17 July 1932 when a train carrying 1200 tons of dynamite from theDe Beers factory atSomerset West to theWitwatersrand exploded and flattened the town, luckily only 5 people were killed.Today, Leeudoringstad hosts the headquarters of [http://www.suidwes.co.za Suidwes Landbou] , one of the largest agricultural companies in South Africa
