Royton railway station

Royton Railway Station served the town of Royton from 1864 until closure in April 1966.

Royton train crash

In February 1961, a runaway train crashed through the buffers at Royton Station, continued on over Highbarn Street and then demolished a pair of terraced houses. Fortunately, no one was killed or seriously injured by the incident. [An Illustrated History of Oldham's Railways by John Hooper (ISBN 1-871608-19-8)]
