Phillip Hancock (born
October 30 ,1953 ) is an Americanprofessional golfer who has played on thePGA Tour .Hancock and his older brother 'Bunky' learned the game of
golf growing up inGreenville, Alabama from their father, a local dentist. His first big tournament win was at the 1969 Alabama State Junior Championship at age 16. After high school, Hancock enrolled at theUniversity of Florida on a golf scholarship. During his freshman year the Gator team, which included future PGA ChampionsAndy Bean ,Gary Koch andWoody Blackburn , won the 1973 NCAA Championship. Europe his first year after failing to earn a spot on the PGA Tour by a single stroke in qualifying school . He joined the PGA Tour the following year. Hancock played full-time on the PGA Tour from 1977–1985; his career was plagued by long absences due to back ailments. After leaving the tour, he has held various teaching and club pro jobs inFlorida andAlabama .Hancock lives in
