"Everyday" is a song by Buddy Holly and Norman Petty, recorded as a single by Buddy Holly and the Crickets on May 29, 1957 and released on September 29, 1957. [ [http://www.buddyhollycenter.org/Buddy%20Holly%20Gallery/buddy_time_2.html Buddy Holly Center] ] Holly plays acoustic guitar in this ballad; drummer Jerry Allison slaps his hands on his lap for percussion; Joe B. Mauldin plays a standup acoustic bass; and producer Norman Petty's wife, Vi, plays the celeste (a chiming glockenspiel-like instrument, used in such classical pieces as "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" from "The Nutcracker"). The song length is an economical 2 minutes and 5 seconds.
A cover version, recorded by James Taylor in 1985, was released in early 1986, peaking in the mid-20s of the "Billboard magazine" Hot Country Singles chart. Don McLean also covered the song as did Erasure on their 2002 album "Other People's Songs". John Denver and The Trashmen have also recorded it and the rock band Pearl Jam have performed a rendition live in Lubbock, Texas (Holly's birthplace). This song has also been featured in the 2003 movie "Big Fish", in the 1997 cult film Gummo, in the season 4 episode of the TV series "LOST" "Cabin Fever" and in the movie "Stand By Me." It has also featured as a cover by indie rock band Rogue Wave in the trailer for Anne Hathaway's 2008 film Rachel Getting Married.
