The Ferrari F1/86 was a Formula One car created by Scuderia Ferrari for use in the 1986 Formula One season. It was designed by Mauro Forghieri and Harvey Postlethwaite, like its predecessor, the 156/85, but was very uncompetitive and failed to make any impression. The car was replaced by the Ferrari F1/87 for the F1|1987 season.

Development and race history

The Ferrari F1/86 was designed as a replacement for the 156/85 used in F1|1985, which was a fast but unreliable car. The chassis and the overall design of the 1986 car was very similar to the 1985 model. The main concerns were in refining the aerodynamics, which were good in the previous model, and making all parts more reliable: this work, together with the powerful Ferrari engine, should have granted Ferrari a good car in 1986.

In fact, the F1/86 performed far worse than its predecessor: the reliability problems were all but eliminated, but it was constantly outpaced by the faster Williams FW11, McLaren MP4/2 and Lotus 98T. The car gained only 5 podiums during the year (4 with Johansson and 1 with Alboreto), and failed to score a single win, pole position or fastest lap. Being highly unsuccessful, at the end of that year it was replaced by the F1/87 model.
