Jonathan Oquendo

Jonathan Oquendo

Jonathan "Polvo" Oquendo (born August 8, 1983) is a professional boxer from Puerto Rico. He is trained by the well known Puerto Rican boxing trainer, Roberto Nevarez.

Oquendo had a successful amateur career, in which he won various international events, and he almost participated at the 2004 summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, but he lost during the try-outs to form the Puerto Rican national boxing team for those games. Oquendo took some time off to decide what road to take next, eventually deciding to go ahead and become a professional boxer.

On June 25, the Pampanos, Vega Alta native made his debut, knocking out Yuniel Ramos in two rounds at Kissimmee.

He followed his first win with another victory, on February 4, 2005 at Jacksonville. He outpointed Robert DaLuz unanimously that night.".

Oquendo is the first Puerto Rican boxer signed by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.

December 16, 2006 in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico was oquendo's night were he performed a spectacular knockout on the 1rst Round to the Mexican boxer Alejandro Felix Montiel, leaving Montiel with injuries and wining his title.

As a person, Jonathan has not changed much. He still is the humble person he was before he started going up. He keeps partying with his family & friends and he has not forgotten from where he is and how hard it has been all of this.

As A boxer he is and is going to be a star raising in the sky that is going to be at the top. It is sad that on his birthplace, Puerto Rico, the island of boxers such as Felix "Tito" Trinidad and Wilfredo Gomez, he is just a prospect that does not receive all support supposed, when outside the island he is already a famous star.
