King tide

A king tide is the name given to exceptionally high tides in Tuvalu. Elsewhere these tides are known as spring tides. Such tides can have a devastating effect on the islands' people and wildlife due to the islands being extremely low lying atolls. As with all spring tides, king tides occur with the coming of new and full moons.
