USS "Chauvenet" (AGS-11/YMS-195) was a YMSsub|135 acquired by the
U.S. Navy for the task of removing mines that had been placed in the water to prevent ships from passing."Chauvenet" was constructed at the Hiltebrant Dry Dock Company,
Kingston, New York . She was laid down on3 April 1942 , launched on10 August 1942 and commissioned on20 March 1943 ."Chauvenet" was reclassified as a
survey ship and redesignated USS "Chauvenet" (AGS-11) on20 March 1945 ."Chauvenet" was sold in
1947 to a British firm and renamed "Zipper". She was lost offSouth America in a storm in1963 .References
