Nick Zala , pedal steel guitarist, was born Nicholas Michael Anthony Zala in Barnet, Hertfordshire, 21 January 1959.
Drawing on the influences of his grandparents, both pianists, one a brilliant sight reader, and the other a jazz musician who played entirely by ear, Nick Zala was exposed to music from infanthood. Taking up the cello at the age of 7, and giving it up at 9 in favour of the more portable guitar he quickly became accustomed to performing.
By the age of 15 he had been lucky enough to gain jazz guitar tuition from Ike Isaacs, and useful advice on a personal level from the guitarist Joe Pass.
After 30 years as a professional guitar player and teacher, he took up the Pedal Steel guitar. Nick Zala’s first band “The Loose Salute” contacted him eight weeks after he had bought his Pedal steel…A great review of his first gig with 'The Loose Salute' in the British national newspaper 'The Guardian' provided a good boost to his career. Between 2003 and 2007, he has recorded on eleven albums , toured in Europe and the United States of America, appeared on TV and radio , and made it into the top ten of the British charts, with pop/rock band McFly's platinum selling album "Motion In The Ocean"
