issues=Juan Jacobo Fernandez, Franciscan monk of the convent of Herbón and martyr, lived from July 25, 1808 – July 10, 1860 in the Piñor de Cea (Carballeda) Province of Orense Spain.
He was martyred in in Damascus. Seven Spanish monks and an Austrian were assassinated the nine of July, 1860, and beatified October 10, 1926. He was thrown from the tile roof of the church. Still alive, he prayed to God with fervor that He would accept his sacrifice, until with a knife they killed him.
Since their deaths, the names of Manuel Ruiz, Carmelo Volta, Engelberto Kolland, Nicanor Ascanio, Pedro Soler, Nicolás María Alberca, Francisco Pinazo y Juan Jacobo Fernández are honored 10 of July.
